Chang Hyung-jin is an advisor at books-to-metallurgy-to-semiconductor conglomerate Young Poong, which was founded in 1949 by his grandfather Byung-hee and Choi Ki-ho. Young Poong is a large minority shareholder of Korea Zinc, one of the world's largest processors of zinc and other metals. Chang's biggest source of wealth is his stake in Korea Zinc. The other large minority shareholder is Choi Ki-ho's family, including his grandson Yun-beom, who is chairman and CEO of Korea Zinc. In 2024, Young Poong teamed up with billionaire Michael Kim's private equity firm, MBK Partners, and launched an unsolicited takeover bid for Korea Zinc. Since then, Young Poong has been locked in an intense ownership battle with the Choi family.
