About Me

David Hoffmann owns 127 businesses, including everything from real estate developments to luxury transportation to executive search firm DHR International, the source of his early fortune. Hoffmann bought the Pittsburgh Penguins for $1.75 billion in June, a price that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman described as low and a good deal. Hoffmann is the majority shareholder of Lee Enterprises and sole shareholder of Hoffmann Media Group, which together own 154 newspapers and seven radio stations. The self-made entrepreneur grew up in Washington, Missouri, where his dad drove a milk truck. The family didn't have running hot water until he was in high school. He and his wife Jerri, who moved to Naples in 2015, paid $105 million for a 24,202-square-foot estate with 12 bedrooms in the city's tony Port Royal neighborhood in 2025.
