Gwynne Shotwell is SpaceX's president and COO, and manages the operations of the commercial space exploration company founded by Elon Musk. It's grown from a futuristic idea of enabling people to live on other planets to a company with over 13,000 employees and a valuation of $350 billion. As of March 2024, SpaceX has transported astronauts to the International Space Station nine times on behalf of NASA and three times for private company customer Axiom Space. Shotwell was the 11th employee of SpaceX, joining the company in 2002. Before that, she was at spacecraft developer Microcosm as its space systems director. Shotwell owns an estimated stake in SpaceX of less than 1%.
