Hemant Taneja is CEO of $36 billion (assets under management) venture capital firm General Catalyst. Under his leadership, GC completed mergers with European VC firm La Famiglia in 2023 and India-based VC firm Venture Highway in 2024. GC also raised $8 billion in new capital in 2024. An early backer of Stripe, Snap, Anduril, Grammarly and Gusto, Taneja also plays a big role in overseeing GC's healthcare investments. He has cofounded companies like remote patient monitoring firm Livongo, which was acquired for $18.5 billion in 2020. Since joining GC in 2001 and becoming CEO in 2021, Taneja has launched a West Coast office for the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based firm and expanded it into wealth management and buyouts. Born in Delhi, Taneja immigrated to the U.S. at age 15. He sold his first company, wireless app maker Isovia to JP Mobile after dropping out of his MIT PhD program.
