Herbert Sy is an adviser of SM Investments, a major conglomerate, and a director of SM Prime, the group's property developer. He is a son of the late SM founder, Henry Sy Sr., and the second-youngest of six children. His three brothers and two sisters all hold posts in the business, which spans banking, retail, real estate, mining, and hotels. He is actively involved in the group's supermarket operations, which includes an investment arm. He has an undergrad degree in management from De La Salle University. In 2022, SM Investments agreed to acquire Philippine Geothermal Production in a $304 million, all-share deal in a bid to lower its carbon footprint.
