Jeff Skoll built his fortune as eBay's first full-time hire and president in 1995; he left eBay in 2001, three years after its IPO. His Skoll Foundation has put on the Skoll World Forum since 2004, bringing together business, government, philanthropy and civil society leaders focused on social change. His charitable Skoll Foundation and Skoll Global Threats Fund have distributed some $1.2 billion globally over more than 20 years. In 2024, Skoll announced that after 2 decades he was shutting down his movie production company Participant Media, which produced An Inconvenient Truth and many other films. Skoll founded millennial-focused cable TV channel Pivot TV in 2013 but shut it down in late 2016.
