About Me

Marc Stad founded Dragoneer Investment Group, a $37 billion (assets under management) venture capital firm focused on technology investments. Stad began his career in public service as president and commissioner of the City and County of San Francisco Finance Corporation, helping oversee financial assistance to the city and county. He then moved into finance with stints at McKinsey, TPG and the Investment Group of Santa Barbara. He launched Dragoneer in 2012. It has invested in giants in the technology industry, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Spotify and Uber. Stad and his wife pledged $3 million to the University of California, San Francisco's UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals in 2022 to launch the Stad Center for Pediatric Pain to treat children with acute pain. In August 2026, Stad stuck a deal to become the controlling owner of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx.
