About Me

Robert Steers cofounded investment management firm Cohen & Steers in 1986 and took the company public in 2004. Steers served as a co-CEO until 2022 and is now the company's executive chairman. Steers remains the company's largest shareholder with a 23% stake. Before striking out on his own, Steers worked as an analyst and portfolio manager for Citibank's Emerging Growth Stock Fund from 1977 to 1982. In 1985, Steers and his future cofounder Martin Cohen helped launch the first real estate securities mutual fund in the U.S. at the National Securities and Research Corporation.
