It's hard to keep track of time in prison. It's as if the prison wants to emphasize to you just how irrelevant you are to the outie's world, and how irrelevant it is to you, now that you're an innie.

About Me

Sam Bankman-Fried was one of the richest people in crypto, thanks to his FTX exchange and Alameda Research trading firm, before his empire came crashing down in November 2022. After users began withdrawing their investments from FTX at a rapid pace, Bankman-Fried filed for bankruptcy for FTX, FTX's U.S. operations and Alameda Research. On Dec. 13, 2022, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York charged Bankman-Fried in an eight-count indictment with fraud, money laundering, and campaign finance offenses. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison in March 2024 for orchestrating multiple fraudulent schemes. He is currently serving out his sentence in federal prison in Brooklyn's notorious Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), the former residence of Bernie Madoff and Jeffrey Epstein.
