Stefan Kaluzny founded Sycamore Partners in 2011. The private equity firm now manages more than $13 billion in assets Sycamore has invested in consumer and retail brands including department store chain Belk, office supply retailer Staples and fast-fashion chain Hot Topic. Sycamore led the acquisition of drugstore giant Walgreens in a $10 billion transaction in 2025. The son of a pianist and a teacher, Kaluzny grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and earned a bachelor's degree from Yale and an MBA from Harvard. He worked as a consultant at Bain & Co. but in 1994 left to cofound Delray Farms, a chain of fresh grocery stores serving low-income Hispanic communities in Chicago.
