About Me

Vitali Machitski traded timber and oil in 1990s and now controls publicly traded Vimetco, which has stakes in aluminum producers Alro in Europe and Zhongfu Industrial in China. Machitski lost out to billionaires Mikhail Fridman and Viktor Vekselberg in the 1997 privatization auction of Tyumen Oil Company, one of the largest Russian oil companies. In early 2000s he sold some refinery assets to Mikhail Khodorkovsky' Yukos and other buyers. Machitski, a friend of Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec State Corporation, one of the largest weapon manufacturers in the world, controls companies that developed the Rostec-City business complex in Moscow.
