Wang's roots to Shenzhen trace back to 1993, when he moved to the city with the equivalent of about just fifty dollars. Wang continues to face court-imposed high-spending restrictions, after his Amer shares were frozen by a Qingdao court due to contractual disputes. He stepped down as chairman of Shenzhen Amer, a main subsidiary of the group, in October 2023.
