Singapore billionaires Kwek Leng Beng and Kwek Leng Kee are his cousins. Kwek has a board seat in the family's Hong Leong Finance. He inherited a stake in Hong Leong Group from his father, Kwek Hong Leong, who cofounded it with the fathers of Kwek Leng Beng and Kwek Leng Kee. In 2020, Kwek caused a stir by resigning from the board of flagship City Developments, citing differences with the management, such as the company's investments in China.
