Soegiarto Adikoesoemo founded AKR Corporindo as a chemicals trader in 1960 and listed it on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 1994. AKR Corporindo is now engaged in petroleum trading and distribution, logistics services, chemical manufacturing and industrial estate. AKR Corporindo and British oil and gas firm BP's joint venture distributes aviation fuel and operates jointly branded service stations in Indonesia. Soegiarto is AKR's president commissioner. His son Haryanto is president director. In September 2024, AKR's East Java industrial estate JIIPE inaugurated the world's largest single line copper smelter by capacity, run by Indonesia-U.S. joint venture Freeport Indonesia.
