About Me

Tessa Natalia Hartono is a commissioner at kretek cigarette maker Djarum. She inherited her wealth from her late father Michael "Bambang" Hartono. Michael was among the richest in Indonesia and owned a stake in Bank Central Asia together with his brother R. Budi. Michael died in March 2026 at age 86. The Hartonos bought the stake in BCA after another wealthy family, the Salims, lost control of the bank during the 1997-1998 Asian economic crisis. The family first got rich in tobacco and is still one of the biggest clove cigarette makers in the nation. Family holdings also include prime real estate in Jakarta and popular electronics brand Polytron, which forayed into the EV business on its home turf in 2025 with the launch of two electric car models.
